There are MANY skills that you can learn in Dark Age of
Camelot. From Swimming, to Disguise, to Battle Skills, to Smithing, to
Cooking, there is always variety and things that will set your character
apart from the rest. Looking at the samples of skills that have been
announced, we were able to break them into four distinct types; Movement
Skills, Battle Skills, Trade Skills, and Crafting Activities Skills.
Movement skills are things such as swimming,
climbing, leaping, etc. Some of these skills are going to be more valuable
to different classes and therefore easier for them to learn. For example,
a rogue would be able to learn leaping (which allows a player to jump a
larger gap and grab the opposite edge, or if they fall to take less
damage) faster and more easily than say a sorcerer trying to learn the
same skill.
Battle skills are things which will improve your
skills with weapons and help you to avoid getting hit. There hasn't been
much information released on these, but we will add more as it becomes
available.
Trade Skills are things such as Smithing which
creates items that other players will use. The items made from trade
skills will have little or no value to NPC's, but after a certain level
(roughly 30-40% of maximum) store-bought equipment will become
increasingly inferior to player-crafted, to ensure a market for
player-created items.
Crafting Activities are things such as Cooking
which will produce an item that is more for fun and role playing then
actually being something to help you with fighting. These do not require
any training (i.e. they dont use skill points) and anyone will be able to
do them by combining the proper ingredients in the proper ways. There may
be titles associated with these, such as with cooking you may become a
"Master Baker" or "Chef" based on how many of the
recipes you have used.
